7-Eleven Clerk Murdered on the Job

NORTH LAS VEGAS -- A clerk is dead after being gunned down during an attempted robbery at a North Las Vegas convenience store.

The shooting happened just after 2 a.m. Wednesday at the 7-Eleven store on Cheyenne Avenue near Civic Center Drive. Police were flagged down by a citizen who found the wounded clerk.

Police say the two suspects came into the store and demanded money from the clerk before shooting him several times. The clerk is only identified as a 38-year-old man who was pronounced dead after he was taken to UMC.

"That's so horrible and sad. God bless their family," said Wendy Russell, customer. She is a frequent customer who knows many of the clerks. She had actually come by the store several hours after the shooting to apply for a job as a cashier. At the time, she was unaware of the crime.

Nearby business owners say robberies and theft seem to come with the territory.

"Last time we got robbed over here too but the guy didn't have a gun," said Kevin Lu, business owner.

Police are now reviewing surveillance video from the 7-Eleven trying to identify the two suspects.

"It's very sad you know. Why do you have to shoot him, just take the money and go," said Wagih Kamar, another convenience store owner.
