Crime

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- North Las Vegas police ticketed 120 drivers for failure to yield to pedestrians in a 10-hour enforcement blitz aimed at crosswalk safety on two of the city's busiest thoroughfares.

North Las Vegas police spokeswoman Chrissie Coon said Tuesday that 88 other tickets for various offenses were handed out during the day-long enforcement effort Jan. 11. Coon says 12 officers spent the day enforcing crosswalk rules on Las Vegas Boulevard North near the Silver Nugget casino, and on Lake Mead Boulevard at Bassler Street east of Civic Center Drive.

She says the law requires drivers to yield to pedestrians in marked crosswalks -- even if the crossing doesn't have a traffic
signal. Coon says 49 citations were issued for failure to have insurance or driver's licenses.
