LAS VEGAS -- A robbery suspect hit in the head with a bat by a convenience store clerk is now dead.

Authorities say the clerk was cooperating with the suspect, but there came a point when he feared for his life. Police say the clerk felt he had no options but to take action.

The incident happened two weeks ago at the Family Stop convenience store. Authorities say 17-year-old Stefan Muradyan came in to rob the place.

"We know what happened definitively because we have video tape of what happened inside the store," said North Las Vegas Police Sgt. Tim Bedwell.

Police say Muradyan was robbing the place of cash and cigarettes with a replica of a gun. Investigators say when he was distracted by customers coming in, the clerk hit him in the head twice with an aluminum bat.

Muradyan died on Sunday at University Medical Center from his injuries.

Once complete, the case will go to the District Attorney's Office, who has the final say if the clerk will be charged. So far, police don't believe that will happen.

"The actions of the clerk are going to be based off of what the clerk knew at the time and he knew he was having a gun pointed at him and there were threats to kill him," said Bedwell.

Investigators believe Muradyan and other people he knows may be responsible for a rash of convenience store robberies across the Las Vegas valley.

"I think the commonalities begin at the cigarettes and the actions of the suspect," said Bedwell.

Muradyan's family had no comment. The DA's Office isn't expected to get the case until the next couple of weeks.
