Alcohol, speed suspected in deadly crash

One person is dead and another in critical condition following a three-car crash in North Las Vegas Saturday night, police said.

The crash happened around 10:00 p.m. in the area of Losee Road and Washburn Road.

One of the drivers was speeding when the car failed to maintain its lane of travel and caused a high impact rear-end collision with an SUV, according to a report by the North Las Vegas Police Department.

Both vehicles ran off the road and ended up in a desert area, investigators said.

Medical responders rushed the two drivers to the hospital where the driver of the SUV died. The other driver suffered critical injuries, police said.

A third vehicle was also involved in the crash, but the driver did not suffer serious injuries.

Investigators with the coroner's office will release the identity of the victim once they notify family.

While the cause of the crash is still under investigation, police believe alcohol and speed were both factors in the collision.
