Student arrested with loaded gun at Desert Rose High School

A 17-year-old female student is in police custody after a loaded gun was found in her purse Thursday afternoon at Desert Rose High School, according to Clark County School Police.

The arrest happened around 1:30 p.m. at the school which is located on Brooks Avenue near Commerce Street and Cheyenne Avenue in North Las Vegas.

Students reported the gun to faculty members who contacted school police.

There was one round in the chamber, school police said.

The student is facing a charge of possessing a dangerous weapon on school property.

This is the second gun found on a student on school property Thursday.

School police have confiscated 16 guns since the beginning of the school year.
