NLVPD identifies man accused of killing woman in domestic dispute

Police released the name and mugshot of the man accused of killing a woman inside a North Las Vegas apartment on Tuesday.

North Las Vegas Police said the incident started as a domestic dispute.

On Tuesday, Sept. 4, just after 2:00 pm, officers were dispatched to the 3300 block of East Lake Mead Boulevard regarding a woman who was down and not breathing.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 38-year-old woman unresponsive inside of an apartment. Medical personnel arrived and pronounced the woman dead.

Detectives' preliminary investigation indicates the victim and suspect, 38-year-old Ernest Milton Smith Jr., were dating but got into an altercation.

Police said the injuries she suffered as a result of her physical fight with Smith caused her death.

Smith was booked at the Las Vegas City Detention Center for the charge of murder.

The Clark County Coroner's Office will release the identity, and cause and manner of death, pending notification of next of kin.

Anyone with information in this homicide is urged to call the North Las Vegas Police Department at 702-633-9111 or, to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
