Slain NLV family were beloved customers of mini mart; suspect had extensive criminal past

Police made an arrest Wednesday in the murder of a North Las Vegas family.

Jose Easley Jr., 41, is charged in the shooting death of Susan Nash and her two adult children, Deante', and Dejona'e Nash. According to police, Easley was an "acquaintance" of the family.

A fourth family member was also shot but is expected to survive.

The shooting occurred Sunday in a shopping center at Lake Mead and Simmons.

Pictures of 52-year-old Susan, 31-year-old Deante', and 20-year-old Dejona'e Nash are posted outside the Zaman Mini Mart, where the family was gunned down.

"I was actually right across the street behind the stop sign when the shooting happened," said Jancyn Rash, a homeless woman who knew the Nash family.

According to Rash, on more than one occasion, the Nash family has been generous to her.

"I was just a panhandler and they helped me out a couple of times and prayed with me," Rash said.

Employees of the mini mart have set up a donation container for the family. They said they did it because people have continuously stopped by, asking how they could help.

According to the workers, the Nash family were beloved customers. A memorial filled with candles, flowers, and signs is growing in front of the store.

"IT says 'May God bless them' and give them peace,'" Rash said as she read one of the signs. "On the other side it says 'Susan, now it's my turn to pray for you.'"

Easly, the suspected shooter has a lengthy criminal record dating back to 1998. In August, Easley was arrested for battery while in violation of parole for coercion. But the charges were dropped, and he was released from custody.

8 News NOW reached out to the Clark County District Attorney's Office for an explanation but have yet to hear back.

"It's all just too much for me," said Amena Blue, a family friend.

Blue was friends with Deante'. She said he was with him moments before the shooting.

"I could have been shot because I was just; I just barely had dropped him off right there," she said as she pointed to the area.

Like many others, Blue says she wants justice for the Nash family.

Easley's bail is set at more than $3 million. He's facing a long list of charges including murder and attempted murder
