Family faces charges in boy's accidental shooting

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Five members of the same family are due in court Monday morning. They are facing charges in the accidental shooting of a young boy.

Metro Police say the 3-year-old accidentally got ahold of his mother's gun and shot himself in the head.
This happened in November. The boy is on the road to recovery now but five of his family members are facing a long list of charges.

Earlier this month, police arrested the boy's parents, Liza and Richard Haut, his grandparents, Marvin and Rackell Haut and his uncle Joshua Haut. They all lived at the same home in North Las Vegas.

In an arrest report, police said they found 17 unsecured firearms in the house and almost all of them were located where three children in the house could reach them with little effort. Police believe the boy got a pistol from his mother's purse and accidentally shot himself.

8 News Now spoke with the district attorney earlier this month who said the adults in that home did not practice responsible gun ownership.

"A kid who was known for climbing on things, I mean his nickname was Monkey because he climbs on things to have access to a loaded gun, it's irresponsible, it's criminal," said Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson.

All five family members who were arrested face charges of abuse, neglect, or endangerment.
