Martial Arts Academy Hosts Child Safety Event

A North Las Vegas martial arts academy is planning an event highlighting child safety.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27 at McHenry’s ATA Martial Arts Academy at Deer Springs Town Center, located at the southeast corner of North 5th Street & 215 Beltway in North Las Vegas.

Parents and children will learn easily applicable personal safety concepts such as simple breakaway self-defense instruction, role playing of possible dangers, bully prevention tactics, child abduction safety tips and internet safety precautions. Child ID cards and fingerprinting will also be addressed. Fire and police officials will be on hand for this free event.

Child abduction and exploitation, especially bullying among school-age children, is becoming an ever increasing problem. According to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, there will be approximately 58,000 non-family abductions and more than 200,000 family abductions this year in the United States. In addition, one out of four kids will be bullied by another youth with mental, verbal or physical abuse while more than 282,000 students are physically attacked in secondary schools each month nationwide.
