Food 4 Less, "Mammovan" Team Up for Breast Cancer Prevention

Food 4 Less, "Mammovan" Team Up for Breast Cancer Prevention

Free and low-cost breast cancer screenings will be offered at local Food 4 Less stores throughout 2012.

Food 4 Less has teamed up with Nevada Health Centers to offer low- to no-cost breast mammograms at selected Food 4 Less locations through the Centers’ Mammovan program.

The Nevada Health Center Mammovan is a mobile mammography van designed to travel to underserved areas of the state to provide mammogram screenings to geographically isolated and/or uninsured women who otherwise might not seek out the service on their own.

The program was made possible in part from a $10,000 grant from Food 4 Less to Nevada Health Centers.

The Mammovan will be offering breast cancer screenings at the following Food 4 Less locations throughout the year:

Local Schools Choose Healthier Vending Option

Local Schools Choose Healthier Vending Option

A number of Clark County School District high schools now offer healthier vending machine options for their students.

Fresh Healthy Vending is moving into the southern Nevada market and has installed its machines in nine local high schools. All food and drink options stocked in the machines exceed nutritional guidelines for schools, according to company officials.

According to a report in Bloomberg Businessweek, the San Diego-based company "charges franchisees about $11,000 per machine, which they then manage by ordering from Fresh Healthy online and restocking once or twice a week.”

Scaled-Down RC Cars Almost Like Racing Real Thing

The special clay racing surface at the track cost $50,000 to install.

When Eric Flinn and his wife, Amber Pierce, opened The Vegas RC Raceway in January, their goal was simply to "do something fun, and we wanted to give a little something back to the community." The track also has provided a vehicle for parents and kids to enjoy quality time together by participating in a fast and exciting hobby that can be fairly inexpensive.

Expanded 4G Coverage for Local Verizon Customers

Expanded 4G Coverage for Local Verizon Customers

Verizon Wireless will roll out Thursday expanded coverage areas for its 4G network.

The expanded network coverage launches on July 21 and will be available to customers in North Las Vegas, Henderson and southwest Las Vegas. The Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network initially launched Dec. 5, 2010 in metro Las Vegas inside the boundaries of the Interstate 215 loop.

In real-world, fully-loaded network environments, 4G LTE users should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.

The company is building out its 4G LTE network, and is on course to deliver 4G LTE to its entire 3G wireless footprint by the end of 2013.

When customers travel outside of a 4G LTE coverage area, the devices automatically connect to Verizon Wireless’ 3G network, enabling customers to stay connected from coast to coast.
