Veterans in Need Get the Gift of Movies

Veterans in Need Get the Gift of Movies

A generous donation is helping veterans feel more comfortable as they get treatment at the North Las Vegas Veterans Administration Medical Center.

The group DVDs for Vets donated 150 movies and two portable DVD players to the center Monday.

The gift will help veterans stay entertained as they go through chemotherapy, dialysis or recovery from injuries.

"I think that they are going to love getting these DVDS. I think that it is going to make a big difference in their treatment. I think they are really going to enjoy it and be grateful for this donation," Karen Cinnamon, the chief of voluntary service at the VA hospital.

This is not a one-time donation. DVDs for Vets will continue sending the movie donations to the center every few months.

North Las Vegas Woman Gets Keys to New Habitat for Humanity Home

North Las Vegas Woman Gets Keys to New Habitat for Humanity Home

A North Las Vegas woman is the proud owner of a home thanks to the efforts of Habitat for Humanity.

Sandra Drummond was unexpectedly kicked out of her home by her husband several years ago. With nowhere else to go, she and her baby daughter had to live at the Shade Tree Shelter. Through hard work and determination, Drummond was able to get a job and an apartment. Now, she has rebounded completely from homelessness and has a home for herself and her daughter.

Bank of America donated the home to Habitat for Humanity and Capital One provided the money to repair it. Drummond put in sweat equity by helping volunteers with construction.

This is the 92nd home that Habitat for Humanity has helped provide since is started working in the Las Vegas valley in 1991.
