NLV Officers Take Kids Shopping | Charity
Officers from the North Las Vegas Police Department took children in need of some holiday cheer, shopping Wednesday has part of their annual Shop with a Cop event.
Officers who volunteered to be personal shoppers accompanied 52 children at the Target store at Craig Road and Clayton Street. Thanks to generous donations from North Las Vegas businesses and citizens, each child had more than $200 to spend.
The officers love the event has much as the children because they get a chance to show the kids they do more for the community then deal with crime.
"They kind of see them in a light where they are arresting people. They have that firm voice. We want everyone to know these officers are husbands, they are fathers, they are mothers, and they have hearts. They love children and support people in each and every way. Their hearts are warm when they come out and support these kids," Portland Preston, with the North Las Vegas Police Department, said.
The children were selected from several organizations, including Candlelighters of Southern Nevada, Make a Wish Foundation of Southern Nevada, Positively Kids Foundation and the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation. All the organizations are dedicated to terminally ill or medically fragile children.
Santa and Mrs. Claus attended the event and had their pictures taken with the children before the shopping started.
