Summer Food Program Provides Nutritious Meals for Kids | Community Spirit
Three Square Food Bank and its partners launched the Summer Food Service program Wednesday to ensure southern Nevada children do not go hungry this summer.
When school is out, kids who use the free and reduced lunch program often do not have access to nutritious meals. The summer food program works to fill that gap.
"It is scary when you think about families that can't put food on the table because they are making choices to pay rent, pay their utility bills, that are higher during the summer," president and CEO of Three Square Food Bank Brian Burton said. "These are very unacceptable choices. They shouldn't have to choose to go without food."
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday, kids 18 years and younger can receive free lunches now through August 23.
One partner for the program is the YMCA. Lunches are available at all four YMCA's throughout the Las Vegas valley.
