LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A trial date has been delayed for a Cirque du Soleil dancer accused of strangling and dismembering his ex-girlfriend in Las Vegas.

Clark County courts spokeswoman Mary Ann Price said a new trial date for 32-year-old Jason Griffith will be decided during a status check on Dec. 19. Griffith's defense attorney asked Monday that the trial be delayed so he could have more time to build his case. The trial initially had been scheduled to start next week.

Prosecutors say Griffith killed 31-year-old Debora Flores Narvaez at his home in North Las Vegas on Dec. 12 and tried to hide her dismembered body in a tub of cement. He was a performer in the Beatles show, "Love," at The Mirage. Flores Narvaez performed in the "Fantasy" show at the Luxor.
