The sun for energy and for the economy was the focus of a tour Thursday by U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Dr. Steven Chu.
Chu visited the new Amonix facility in North Las Vegas. The plant makes concentrated photovoltaic solar power systems. The systems are used in solar power plants around the country including one of the largest in the world in Tucson, Arizona. The facility is expected to bring 300 jobs to the area and have a $560 million dollar impact on our economy.
Besides touring the plant, Chu also lead a round table discussion with solar industry business leaders.
The Amonix facility was partly financed by a $5.8 million tax credit from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
