NLVPD Offers Gang Education for Families

The North Las Vegas Police Department is looking for families interested in participating in an upcoming 6 week education program, the Gang Resistance Education and Training Program (G.R.E.A.T.). This is going to be a family oriented version of the program taught in schools, with goals of building healthy family relationships and positive behaviors will letting people know the truth about the nature of gangs. Lessons focused on throughout the six week class include Internet safety, the benefits of parental monitoring and how to overcome communications barriers, improving listening skills, and effective discipline.

Families interested in applying for this program should contact the North Las Vegas Police Department at (702) 633-1970 by March 4, 2011. Applicants are required to be North Las Vegas residents with one or more children ages 10-14; and must be able commit to the full six weeks. Classes will begin March 8th, and take place every Tuesday night from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Community Services Building at 3425 West Craig Road.
