Another round of heavy enforcement for intersection safety takes place this week in southern Nevada.

Local jurisdictions have “safety events” planned throughout the valley this week, including the following:

Pedestrian Safety Event Scheduled for Friday

Pedestrian Safety Event Scheduled for Friday

North Las Vegas Police will combat a recent rash of pedestrian accidents with a safety event Friday.

From 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., the department will conduct a pedestrian safety event targeting mid-block crosswalks with high traffic volume.

Officers will focus their efforts on drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk, drivers who pass vehicles stopped for pedestrians and pedestrians who fail to use a crosswalk to safely cross the street. The goal of this event is to educate drivers and pedestrians to be more aware of their surroundings on the roadway.

This effort is done in conjunction with the statewide campaign known as "Pedestrians Can Walk Safely" and was made possible by a grant from the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety.
