New City Manager on His Way to North Las Vegas

North Las Vegas Mayor Shari Buck says the city manager of another southern Nevada city will be her city's new top administrator.

Buck issued a statement Wednesday saying Timothy Hacker has been recruited to take over next month for outgoing Acting City Manager Maryann Ustick. The North Las Vegas City Council is due to take action on Hacker's appointment Sept. 21.

The statement says Hacker has 22 years of in local government, most recently in Mesquite. The desert town of 20,000 residents is about 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas.

North Las Vegas has more than 210,000 residents. It was among the fastest-growing cities in the nation last decade, but is struggling with a multimillion-dollar budget shortfall.

Ustick is leaving to become city manager of Destin, Fla.
