NORTH LAS VEGAS -- City Manager Timothy Hacker announced Monday that Fire Chief Al Gillespie has been "released from employment."
Gillespie was placed on administrative leave in mid-July. The firefighters union said it happened after Gillespie refused to implement what he said were dangerous budget cuts to 911 response.
Gillespie served as the chief of the department for the past seven years. According to a news release from the city of North Las Vegas, the details of his departure will be confidential.
Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Buchanan served as acting fire chief and will remain in that position until further notice.
