NASCAR Week Hits Las Vegas

NASCAR rolls into Las Vegas this weekend and fans are already setting up camp. It's amazing that some fans making a pit stop in Las Vegas for the weekend races are already here. They arrived Monday morning and the green flag for entrance into RV infield began waving at noon.

Fred Sanchez is here from Seattle, again, "Since they opened the track -- every year."

Oklahoman Jerri Chapman is a true sooner. She's here before the boomer, "We get an early jump. We go into town and spend money."

Rick Krueger made a really long trip to be here - he's from Henderson, "We're here to see all of the pre-race festivities."

Same game-plan for the Gilbert family -- drop the RV, come back on Friday and root for Jeff Gordon.

A few reminders, the NASCAR hauler parade will be Thursday down the world famous Las Vegas Strip beginning at 10 a.m. The Sam's Town 300 nationwide race is Sunday. Lon Kruger will be the Grand Marshal.

Domestic Dispute Turns Deadly

A police standoff ended in a murder suicide at an apartment in North Las Vegas Friday morning.

Police received a call about a domestic dispute around 5:30 a.m. in an apartment at the Craig Ranch Villas Apartment complex near Lone Mountain and Commerce.

"When the officers first got to the scene they made brief contact with a male who then retreated inside the home and fired upon them," said Sgt. Tim Bedwell, NLV Police.

The SWAT team was called and used flash grenades to see if they could force anyone out of the apartment.

"You know two eruptions like boom, boom. I dropped to the floor," said Reginald Scott, a neighbor.

A handful of residents were evacuated from the apartment complex during the nearly four hour ordeal.

When police did enter the apartment they did find the man and woman both dead.

Calls for North Las Vegas Airport Restrictions Grow

Two members of the Nevada Legislature have joined the Clark County Commission in calling for a ban on experimental or home built aircraft at the North Las Vegas Airport.

Senate Majority Leader Steven Horsford and Assemblywoman Marilyn Kirkpatrick say a deadly crash that killed three people last year highlights the safety concerns. They want the legislature to pass a resolution urging Congress to give the FAA the power to ban experimental planes.

The Clark County Director of Aviation wants to move the planes to a less populated area like the airport in Jean, but the FAA is resisting those efforts.
