Police Offer Summer Camp to Combat Gangs

North Las Vegas Police are offering a summer camp in hopes of keeping more kids out of gangs.

The Gang Resistance Education and Training or G.R.E.A.T. Camp gives kids a positive way to spend the summer and stay out of gangs. The GREAT camp is a summer camp version of the GREAT program that is usually taught in the classroom. The program focuses on life skills including building healthy relationships, goal setting, communication skills, conflict resolution, etiquette and the truth about the gang life.  This is the sixth year of the program.

The camp is for kids 10 to 14 years old. They must have a signed authorization from a parent or guardian plus a medical release. They also must be able to commit to the whole week. The camp starts Monday, June 20 through June 24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Police Community Services Division on West Craig Road at Simmons Street. To sign up for the program parents can call the police department at  (702) 633-1970.
