Cannery Casino Provides Teachers A Free Lunch

What you've heard about the free lunch, may not true. About 50 teachers from Jacob E. Manch Elementary School received a complimentary meal on Thursday.

The teacher appreciation luncheon happens every year, underwritten by the Cannery Casino Hotel, to thank the teachers for supporting and enriching their young students throughout the year, and also to celebrate the beginning of summer!

While June 9 is the last day of school, many Manch Elementary teachers will continue their education during the summer. Some will take additional college credits and others will undergo standardized training on teaching the Common Core curriculum.

Before dismissing their students, teachers emphasized the importance of reading over the summer.

"Preliminary reports show when it comes to meeting the educational standards required by the state and school district, Manch students have done well," said Manch Elementary School Princicpal Dr. Diane Lewis. Lewis will analyze those numbers over the summer and have a better idea on the improvements students have made when school resumes in the Fall.

For the past five years, the Cannery Casino Hotel in North Las Vegas has offered approximately $10,000 in financial assistance, in-kind donations, clothing, educational support and volunteers to benefit students at Jacob E. Manch Elementary School.  In addition, the casino also supports the neighboring school Zel & Mary Lowman Elementary School in much the same way. Lowman teachers will be treated to their own luncheon on Friday.
