Nevada Senator Harry Reid recently met with a dozen students from American Heritage Academy in his Washington, D.C. office as they traveled to the nation’s capital with Headmaster Laurel Beckstead.

"Education goes beyond the classroom and visiting our nation’s capital is a important way to learn about the history of our country and democracy," Reid said. "However, this is not a substitute for a solid education at home and it's up to all of us to ensure all Nevada's schools and teachers have the resources they need to help our state's students compete in the 21st-century global economy."

American Heritage Academy in Las Vegas serves families from North Las Vegas to Henderson. American Heritage Academy began 16 years ago as a small home school group that has grown into a private school of 160 students ranging from pre-kindergarten to high school.
