Nevada Sports Books Win Big in March Madness | Sports
College basketball’s two best teams go head-to-head Monday night in the NCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship game.
March Madness is the single largest betting event of the year for Nevada sports books. The betting this year is on track to set records. All 67 games of the tournament are expected to bring in at least $120 million to the 184 sports books around Nevada. Compare that to Super Bowl betting this year where sports books made just shy of $94 million.
As for Monday night’s game, The University of Kentucky Wildcats are favored to win by at least seven points. The team had an easy road in the tournament, but the University of Kansas Jayhawks nearly lost twice during their rise.
"Kentucky has a lot of players that are going to be drafted into the NBA next year, so [the sports books] have their trust in Kentucky. With what they've been doing in the tournament, they've been covering so far," Jeff Sherman assistant manager at Las Vegas Hotel and Casino said.
Kansas and Kentucky met in November in New York City, and the Wildcats won by 10. A native Las Vegan will be on the court Monday night. Cheyenne High School graduate Elijah Johnson scored 13 points in Saturday’s semi-final game, helping the Jayhawks advance.
