One man killed, one officer injured in police shootout near Clark High School

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- One man was killed and a woman and a Las Vegas Metro Police officer wounded in a shootout Monday night near Clark High School.

The shooting occurred just after 6:30 p.m. at an apartment complex near Pennwood Avenue and Arville Street, according to Metro Capt. Carlos Hank.

Officers were dispatched to a domestic dispute. When they arrived, they were immediately met with gunfire, according to Capt. Hank.

Investigators said officers returned fire, and the gunman took off. After a brief chase, officers found the suspect and again opened fire, killing the man.

A woman who was with the man was wounded. She was treated at a nearby hospital and is expected to recover. A police officer was hit by bullet fragments and is also expected to recover.

The identity of the man shot and killed by police will be released by the Clark County Coroner's Office.

The identity of the officers involved in the shooting, along with additional information about the suspect and the shooting incident will be released within 72 hours, per the policies of the LVMPD.

This is the 7th shooting involving Metro Police officers in 2021.
